This breakout is chock full o’ sensors! Add gesture sensing, RGB colour sensing, proximity sensing, or ambient light sensing to your project with the Adafruit APDS9960.
When connected to your microcontroller (running the Adafruit library) it can detect simple gestures (left/right, up/down), return red, green, blue, and clear light values, or measure how close an object is to the front of the sensor. Uses I2C — easy to wire up and use.
Now updated with STEMMA QT / Qwiic connectors so you don’t even need to solder — just plug in a QT cable and go. QT cable not included, but we have a variety in the shop.
Onboard 3.3 V regulator and level shifting means it works with both 3.3 V and 5 V microcontrollers.
What It Can Do
Gesture detection — left, right, up, down (more complex gestures possible with custom code)
Proximity sensing — up to a few centimetres, 8-bit resolution
RGB + clear light sensing — with configurable interrupt thresholds
Ambient light sensing
