Fashion Tech Just Got a Colour Upgrade: Meet the Blush & Snow ESP32 Boards
I have a confession: I judge dev boards by their looks. Not because performance doesn't matter — it obviously does — but because half of what I build ends up sewn into a sleeve, tucked behind a collar, or worn out the door, and a board that looks like it fell out of a server rack kills the “fashion” half of fashion tech before you've soldered a single pin.
That's why I'm genuinely excited about the two new colours we just added to the shop: a blush pink ESP32-WROOM-32E and a snow white ESP32-WROOM-32E, both with gold detailing on the pads. Under the hood they're the exact same board you already know — WROOM-32E module, 30-pin layout, USB-C, dual-core 240MHz processor, WiFi and Bluetooth. Every tutorial, every PlatformIO config, every line of code you've already written for a standard ESP32-WROOM-32E works without a single change. The only thing that's different is that it doesn't look like it belongs on a workbench.
Why board colour actually matters for wearables
A huge amount of wearable tech never makes it out of the prototype stage, and it's rarely because the code doesn't work. It's because the maker doesn't want to wear the prototype. If your board is a slab of exposed traces in industrial green sitting on top of your sleeve, it stays in a drawer after the demo. If it's small and it matches your build, you're far more likely to actually finish the piece and wear it out into the world.
I see this constantly when I'm teaching: the “good enough” version of a project gets built to 80% and quietly abandoned, while the version someone is proud to wear gets finished, worn to three events, and shows up in someone else's project as inspiration. Colour is not a gimmick here — it's a finishing incentive.
What pairs well with these boards
Both new colourways drop straight into any build that specs a classic ESP32-WROOM-32E, including several of our as-seen-on-CMozMaker video kits. If you're following along in PlatformIO (and if you're not yet, it's worth the switch — there's a video on the channel about exactly why), your board definition and platformio.ini don't need to change at all. Just the board's outfit.
If pink or white isn't your thing, our standard black ESP32 dev board (30-pin, USB-C) is always in stock and a couple of dollars less — same specs, classic look.
A practical note before you buy
These are limited-run colours, produced in small batches, so if pink or white catches your eye, don't sit on it too long. We don't always know if or when a colourway comes back once it sells through.
And whichever board you land on: remember that conductive fabric is what actually turns any of these into a wearable. Pair your new board with our conductive thread or fabric, sketch your circuit out before you sew a single stitch, and you'll save yourself the experience of picking conductive thread out of a hem at 11pm the night before a demo.
